How to Implement the Latest Google My Business Features

July 1, 2019

Have you heard about the new Google My Business Features?

Google My Business (GMB) just rolled out enhancements that make having a GMB listing more important than ever. Your company does have a Google My Business profile, right? If not, your business is missing out on a free traffic source and increased local search visibility.

A Google My Business presence is an important part of your omnichannel strategy. Your customers and consumers searching for products and services like yours will be able to discover you wherever it is most convenient for them.

You also need to claim your Google My Business listing before someone else does. Go through the verification process so you can manage your account and ensure all of your company data is accurate.

If you’re just getting started with Google My Business, take a look at this article to guide you through the process. Keep reading here for the latest Google My Business features so you can implement them immediately.

Just-Released Google My Business Enhancements

This is a list of the GMB options that are now available, as well as what is to come later this summer:

1. Google Posts

2. Google My Business short names and URL

3. Website Builder

4. Direct Messaging with Customers

5. Appointment URLs Function

6. Cover photo control

7. Prominent logo display

8. Google My Business Marketing Kit

9. Welcome Offers

10.Local Favorites Award (Categories to be announced later this summer)

Here is an overview of each new feature and how you can implement it in your GMB listing.

1. GMB Posts

The Google My Business Posts option was actually released a while ago, but new features make it better than ever for giving an authentic, approachable feel to your company.

Select a high-quality image for your post. Then craft a short article updating your customers on something related to your business. You can let them know what’s happening in your company, or about new products. Maybe you want to make followers aware of an upcoming event or a special offer.

One nice feature is the ability to include a call-to-action (CTA) to guide your customers on the next steps to take. You can select one of the following options for your CTA button:

CTA Button

• Book
• Order Online
• Buy
• Learn More
• Get Offer
• Call Now

2. Google My Business short names and URL

Now you can have a @short name and custom URL (approved by Google) to reflect your business. This will appear in searches on Google and soon on Google Maps.

3. Website Builder

This is a free website that is mobile-friendly and automatically updates with the information in your Google My Business listing. If you don’t already have a website, this is a nice option.

4. Direct Messaging with Customers

You can configure your GMB profile so customers can directly message you from their mobile. Some customers feel more comfortable messaging rather than calling. If you’re going to be unavailable, you can set up auto-reply or turn the chat feature off.

5. Appointment URLs Feature

This provides your business with the capability for customers to view available times and create an appointment. There are different options available, depending upon your business needs:

• Place an order
• View a menu
• Create a reservation
• Book an appointment
• Search for products

6. GMB Cover Photo Control

You can select which of your photos you prefer for your company’s cover photo for your GMB listing.

7. Prominent Logo Display

This feature is available only if your GMB profile is 100% complete with required information like your address and hours of operation. On complete Google My Business listings, the business logo will appear in the upper right corner of the profile.

8. Google My Business Marketing Kit

Google My Business developed a site featuring promotional items to help both your online and local marketing efforts. There are items that you can customize by selecting the design and colors, which are then automatically updated with your business information.

You can create stickers, posters, signs, and social posts. GMB also offers a customized video to help your business.

You can download and print the marketing items. Request your marketing kit and customize the features to match your brand identity here.

9. Google My Business Welcome Offer

The GMB Welcome Offer provides a way for you to connect with your customers and followers in a meaningful way. You can offer a discount or promotion to your GMB followers as a thank you for purchasing your products.

This is a great way to turn followers into actual customers. Go to the Profile area of your GMB app to access the Welcome Offer. Click on the option, “Turn followers into customers,” and “Create a Welcome Offer.” Follow the instructions to complete setup of your offer.

The GMB Welcome Offer is a powerful way to convert visitors to your profile into customers. This also helps to increase your local site traffic.

10.Local Favorites Award

The top 5% of local businesses will receive a badge on their GMB profile indicating they are “Local Favorites.” There will be various categories which will be announced later this summer.

In order to become a top “Local Favorite” business, you must have a complete, updated profile. Responsiveness to customers will also be an important factor.

The New Google My Business Engagement Platform

GMB continues to evolve as online searches are conducted in more sophisticated ways. Keeping your verified Google My Business profile up-to-date and taking advantage of the latest GMB enhancements can dramatically increase your search visibility online and locally, maximizing your omnichannel efforts.
